Exhaust
Choosing the right muffler and exhaust system is one of the most difficult decision to make. The reason the choice is so frustrating is because of the variety of options available and that fact that it seems no one can ever agree on which muffler is the best.
What to look for when choosing a exhaust setup.
How many catalytic converters do you have?
If you have 2 cats, (which came with the vortec 350s) then you can legally run a true dual setup.
Are you going to lower your truck in the future?
If so, it is advisable to run the pipes as high up as possible to prevent damage from scraping and bottoming out. Also look into turndowns, as it will eliminate the potential to scrape from a lowered truck.
Is your motor going to have performance add-ons?
For a stock motor it is advisable to keep the same size piping, as with a larger pipe you will lose backpressure, which leads to a loss of low end torque.

For a mild/moderate performance motor, a larger piping size will allow for better performance. Also look for a muffler that has great free flowing system.

For a true performance motor, a cutout is another option which can be considered. They will allow for a true free flowing exhaust. Electric cutouts are also available and allow better access and versatility.
Will you have a crossover pipe?
For those running true dual setup, a crossover pipe is also a option. A H-pipe or X-pipe could be used to equalize the pressure in the pipes.
Are you going with a Cat-back system or a install by a shop?
Cat-back system are a something to look for when choosing a exhaust for your truck. The great thing about these systems is they are provided with all the hardware so that the install could be done with a minimal set of tools in a afternoon.

A custom install is also a great option. They provide for a setup that fits you and your trucks needs. These installs are also popular because they allow for you to have a true dual setup, since there is no cat-back true dual setups available. Also note that not all exhaust companies offer a cat-back system.
